 I have deleted NBCI.COM from the list of Free web
page hosting. Once upon a time XOOM.COM was a neat place with lots of
free stuff. Then NBC bought them and SNAP.COM, changed the name to NBCI,
they cut back, and now they plan to get rid of all the remaining staff. It's
sad.
Disney is another giant that tried hard to make a big splash in on the web.
They bought
Infoseek,
a decent search site; and Disney rechristened it GO. Now Disney has given
up trying to make this the place you want to go on the web. |

AOLpress 2.0 A good "what you
see is what you get" editor to help you get started. Most of my pages
at least start in AOLpress. There is no official support for this any
more. AOLpress doesn't support Cascaded Style Sheets or Java scripts
, and in fact may identify your scripts as errors in html and try to correct
them. AOLpress only shows the first frame of an animated gif; but when viewing
the page with a browser, the gif will be animated. AOLpress has a built in
spell checker, and the tools you need to make image maps. All in all it's
pretty good for straight HTML.

colors
Dithering occurs when you try to display a color on a monitor that is not
capable of displaying that color, resulting in a "speckled" appearance. A
dithered color is an approximation of a color, that is made by combining
pixels of two colors that are available. This happens most often on the web
when webmeisters use colors that fall outside the 216 color web safe color
palette, and those colors are viewed by a person using a 8-bit (256 color)
